PSYCHOANALYSIS investment of energy:
the concentration of a great deal of psychological and emotional energy on one particular person, thing or idea.

October 2005 Cathexis was formed in the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines Diliman. In psychodynamics, cathexis is defined as the process of investment of mental or emotional energy in a person, object, or idea. The band chose this as their name because they aim to apply it as the theme for their songs. Their chosen genre is melodic rock. Their songs are mostly centered on emotions, and experiences accompanied by poetry like lyrics with melodious vocals, heart-pounding stops of classical keyboard notes twined with progressive guitar riffs.

Band members are alumni and students UP Diliman.
